SMS 167

With the higher flow rate and increasing ROP rates, today’s downhole environment is harsher than ever before.  The increasing demands on downhole tools create the potential for premature washout of key components such as barrels and housings.  Nitronic 50 has become a leading alloy as it offers higher wear resistance to Beryllium Copper; however, due to processing limitations, Nitronic 50 is more for thinner wall tubular formats such as housings and pressure barrels.  So, SMS Precision Tech developed a proprietary alloy product we call SMS -167 to cover the balance of the components.

SMS-167 is a precipitation hardened and cold worked alloy.  It offers superior creep strength, ductility and corrosion resistance for use in high-erosion environments.  It is a high-strength, non-magnetic, non-carcinogenic alternative to BeCu.  Parts built with SMS-167 are more durable and longer lasting than those made from industry standard counterpart alloys and therefore, more cost effective for operators.  We carry select catalog parts in both BeCu and SMS-167.
